March 8th 2019

Dear Parent/Carers,

What an amazing array of costumes we had on Thursday for World Book Day! The children (and teachers!) made a fantastic effort. Year 1 also enjoyed a visit from their Year 4 chums in costume during the afternoon. Reception have had fun drawing and labelling their own aliens, whilst Years 3 and 4 have been reading more about the life of Varjak Paw. Year 5 have been working hard on their picture books and on Tuesday, Year 6 were given a demonstration on how Vikings made fires. We also have more significant sporting achievements to report, this week in football, with a 5-3 win at Corpus Christi on Friday and then winning the Kingston School tournament on Tuesday, and so qualifying to go on to the borough cup finals. Well done to all involved.

Author Visit at the Infants

The infants had a visit from author, Olaf Falafel on Monday. What a fun time the children had and we were delighted to receive his comment – ‘What a lovely well behaved and attentive school – a real pleasure to visit!’ We have attached some print-outs that he supplied which include a voucher for money off his latest book, as well as some sketching tips, should you find these useful:

 Update about funding

You will have seen the headlines this week in the press about the ever increasing financial pressures on schools.  I am attaching a letter which is being sent out by headteachers across the country expressing their concerns in more detail.  I would urge you to raise your concerns with local MPs.  I would also encourage you to support our school financially by responding to the request for Governors’ Fund.  Your contributions, however small, will prove more valuable than ever before and will prove crucial in ensuring that we can continue to provide quality education for your children. We will send out a request letter for Governors’ Fund next week as a follow up to this message.

Red Noses

Red Nose Day is Friday 15th March and we are still selling red noses at both sites. Please note that this year the cost of a red nose is a minimum donation of £1.25.

Elm Road Closure

Please be aware that Elm Road will be closed from Saturday 9th – Monday 11th March whilst the Rail Level Crossing Barrier machine is renewed.

Before school clubs

Children should not be arriving for before school clubs any earlier than 5 minutes before the club start time. There is not always someone here to let them in if they arrive earlier.

Clubs for Summer term

All current clubs will be running after Easter for the Summer term. New links for booking will be available from next week via our website.

Road Safety

Please could we remind all drivers and cyclists to be vigilant and mindful of each other, especially during the busy drop-off and pick-up times.

Donation of Tights for Lunchbowl Network

Following our plea last week for donations of new grey tights, unfortunately we have not yet received any. We would like to make a last call for these by midday on Monday as we would love to be able to supply some to the Lunchbowl Network to take with them on their visit to Kenya later in the month.

PTA Quiz – Friday 15th March

Ticket are still available for the PTA Quiz on Friday 15th March! Closing date to get your tickets is Wednesday 13th March.

Best wishes,

Tabitha White, Headteacher
