17th March 2017

Dear Parents /Carers,

It has been a busy week. Today, the farm has visited nursery and reception, and the juniors put on a music concert. Earlier this week, our gymnasts competed in the borough finals, with one of our teams making it through to represent Kingston in the regional finals. Do read about both of those, and more, in the attached newsletter.

Fair-Funding for Schools
Thank you to those who attended the Fair Funding meeting at Burlington on Monday night. The parent organisers of the local campaign have written:

On Monday 13th March we had a well-attended meeting highlighting the funding difficulties facing all schools. If you were able to attend you will be aware of the government consultation "The National Funding Formula" that closes on the 22nd March.

The funding formula is felt to be a positive move as some schools in rural areas are really struggling. But to take away funds from other schools that are already facing inflationary budget squeezes doesn't make sense. By completing the consultation using the model answers provided by the ‘Fair Funding for all’ campaign, they are asking for a 0% floor instead of the 3% floor on budget cuts to schools.

We are hoping that by responding to the consultation, it is another way to make government see that schools are struggling and implementing more school budget cuts is just another burden on already stretched schools.

The document is technical so you will find answering the other questions difficult, but it is worth making the model answers that are provided in the attached word document particular to your borough/school/experience if you can.

Thank you.

Digital Cameras
It is lovely to take photos of children to share with parents. We could take even more if we had more cameras. Do you have any old digital cameras that you no longer need? If you do, and would be happy to give them to school, please hand them in at either office, together with any leads.

Cake Sales
Thank you to parents and children in Year 5 and Reception, who baked (and bought) lovely cakes and biscuits, at their cake sales, last Friday. Year 5 raised £118 for team building activities and Reception an amazing £306 for their ducklings, which is a record!

Charity Walk for Peace
Advanced warning for your diary: On Sunday 14th May, starting at 10am in Newham there will be another Charity Walk for Peace run by the Ahmadiyya community. They have kindly agreed once again to match fund donations which Lunchbowl collects during the year. This is a charity close to our hearts, which has created kindergardens in the Kibera slums in Nigeria. You are most welcome to join the walk with your children as a sign of appreciation of their generosity. More details will follow nearer the time.

Lunchbowl Hearts
Your children may well have paid a £1 to buy a heart as part of Lunchbowl’s Have a Heart campaign. Heidi Gomes, from Lunchbowl, wrote to thank us, telling us we raised an amazing £515.75, which will provide 1547 meals for the Lunchbowl children. Thank you to everyone who bought a heart.

Sponsored Goods
In the past, we have had kind donations of things like pencils, table tennis bats and computers that parents have sources from surplus goods or equipment at work. Sometimes they are branded and are left over from a campaign, on other occasions they might be because of an office move. Do please let the office know, if you might be able to help with anything (office@ccnm.rbksch.org).
