It has been lovely to welcome the new Reception children to school this week. They already seem to have settled in, and it will be lovely to watch as they grow up, over the next seven years. We also welcomed new Nursery children, including some staying all day, and they seem very happily settled in.
On Tuesday, the Infants was full of superheroes! I enjoyed talking to the children in Years 1 & 2, as they told me about their super powers. Thank you, parents, for organising the costumes so near the start of the year!
Do have a look at the attached newsletter, which contains photos of some of the things children have been doing, this week.
PTA Cheese & Wine & AGM – Wednesday 20th September at 8 p.m.
We are very fortunate as a school to have such a supportive parent community. One of the main ways we see this, is through our fantastic PTA. Through the year they run events, like the Christmas Fair and May Fair and regular cake sales. The PTA is a wonderful way of supporting the school and meeting other parents. The AGM is next Wednesday, at 8 p.m. in the Infant Hall, and it is followed by a chance to chat over cheese and wine. I do hope you will be able to make it.
We are so excited that, thanks to the generosity of the PTA, the infants can enjoy outdoor PE on our all-weather field! As the weather turns cold, it is important that the children stay warm. Therefore, after half term, all children from Reception to Year 6, should have trainers and a warm navy/black tracksuit for outdoor PE.
Please can you ensure that your child has a full named PE kit in school every day. We have had numerous children this week without a kit in school.
Reception – Parent Talk & Welcome Service – Friday 22nd September
Next Friday, parents of Reception children are invited to a talk at 1:15 p.m. to learn how you can support your child’s learning. Strategies for helping your child with their reading, writing and maths will be shared. Following that, parents are invited to walk with their children to Christ Church, where Year 5 will be welcoming the children at 2:30 p.m.
Years 1 to 4 – Flu immunisation – Tuesday 10th October
Year 1, 2, 3 and 4 will be bringing home a letter and form today regarding the nasal flu immunisation programme. This will be taking place on Tuesday 10th October, Years 1 and 2 in the morning, and Year 3 and 4 in the afternoon. The consent form must be returned, even if you do not wish your child to have the immunisation.

Years 5 & 6 – Secondary School Presentations – Monday 18th September at 7 p.m.
We will be holding a parent information evening at the Junior site on Monday 18th September at 7.00 p.m. Although the talk is primarily for parents of children in Year 6, parents of children in Year 5 are very welcome too. This will be designed to help you find your way smoothly through a complex process and to allay your fears. There will be staff from Coombe Girls’, Coombe Boys’ and St Cecilia’s at the meeting to answer parent questions. Mrs Kim will be available to translate for Korean speakers.
Years 5 & 6 VE Day Street Party – CHANGE OF TIME – Friday 13th October at 9:15 a.m.
Due to the opportunity for Year 6 children to take part in sporting activities at Kings College Wimbledon on Friday afternoons, we have changed the time of our celebratory Street Party to 9.15 in the morning on Friday 13th October. All parents and carers are invited to share in eating the cooking projects.
Comics – Wanted!
If you have any old comics you no longer need, please drop them in to either office.
The junior classes have harvested last year’s produce and would love some help to clear and replant their new beds. If you are able to spare an hour over the next two weeks to help small groups of children do this, please contact Mrs Brooks, via the office (firstname.lastname@example.org). If you have any spare plants, we are sure we can find a space for them as well.
Harvest Service – Friday 29th September at 2 p.m.
