As I have talked to children today, one thing is clear – they are very excited about tonight’s school discos! I am very grateful to all the parents who are organising tonight’s discos, I know the children who go will enjoy it and the money raised will go to improving our school even further.
This week Nursery have been learning about vehicles and different ways of travelling and Turtle Class had a go at making their own pizzas on a trip to Pizza Express. Years 1 and 2 have been creating their own Mr Benn stories, where he goes back in time to meet Samuel Pepys; Years 3 and 4 have been learning about the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur and Years 5 and 6 have been continuing their work on Shackleton’s Journey. Do see the attached newsletter for photos.
Bad Weather Communications
At the risk of jumping the gun and the first sight of snow flurries, we thought it would be useful to remind all parents of our policy for communicating with you in case of extreme weather. We are is committed to minimising disruption to our children’s education and will always endeavour to keep the school open wherever possible. Please assume that we are open – where we have no alternative but to close the school before the start of the school day, we will contact parents via ParentMail by 7.30 a.m.
Someone else picking up your child?
It is important that you tell your child if someone different is collecting them after school, and that the class teacher knows that. Before school, please make sure you have told your child and emailed the class teacher if something different is happening with pick-up. We know if a child is going to Connect or an after-school club, but we cannot let somebody else pick up your child unless you have said so. Please send an email to the class email address (e.g. firstname.lastname@example.org) before 8 a.m., so we can be confident that the message can be read by the class teacher. On the rare occasion that plans change during the day, you should call the school office.
We have had a few instances recently where a pupil has been unfamiliar with the person picking them up. If your child does not know the person picking them up, please email the teacher a code word in advance, known to the adult picking up your child, so we can be sure we release your child to the correct person.
No Orchestra or Years 5 & 6 Choir in the last week of half term
Please be aware that there will be no Orchestra on Wednesday 13th February and no Year 5 & 6 Choir on Thursday 14th February.
Years 5 & 6 – DT Project
Next week Years 5 and 6 will be creating their own savoury energy bars. As we’re sure you’re aware, buying ingredients for four classes is expensive and the school would appreciate any monetary donations towards this. Please send in all contributions by Thursday. Feel free to send in any “special” ingredients your think you child’s group would like to include. Year 6 will be making over Monday and Tuesday, Herriot will be making on Wednesday and Durrell on Thursday.
We still have a number of these still to be collected.
