July 9th 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

It was lovely to see so many junior parents at sports’ day this morning. It felt like things were beginning to get back to normal! The children did fantastically and Mrs Kinnear and Mr Newman did a great job organising it.

The European Championship final is the first time in 55 years that we will see England in the final of an international championship. No doubt many of the children will stay up and watch all, or part, of the match and, hopefully, see England triumph – Mr Newman tells me they have the stronger team! School will start at the normal time on Monday, but teachers will be sensitive to tired children.

Parent Representatives meeting 2 p.m. Friday 16th July

On Friday 16th July we will be holding our next Parent Representatives’ meeting at 2p.m. on the infant site.  Please could you send any queries or suggestions to your representatives by the beginning of next week. Could Parent Representatives then forward them to me (head@ccnm.uk) as Andrew Burkinshaw will be on the Isle of Wight with Year 6. This will include an opportunity to meet our new catering company, Nourish, and to find out more about their approach and the proposals for the menus. They will also be meeting with children from the infants and the Junior School Council on the same day.

Pencil Cases

Next year, we are asking children at the juniors to bring in their own pencil case and stationery. We have found that this year when, due to COVID, children had their own allocated supply of equipment, children enjoyed having their own equipment and they took pride in it, ensuring it lasted longer. However, children have said they would like a bit more personalisation so next year, at the juniors, children will have that choice. Here are the details of what should be included, which can be bought from any supplier, but we have worked with Suttles of New Malden and you will be able to buy everything at a discount there. If we receive the Pupil Premium for your child, you will be emailed your voucher for these items:

  • HB Pencils x3
  • Blue Handwriting Pen
  • Eraser
  • Ruler (30cm)
  • Gluestick
  • Black Whiteboard Pen
  • Small set of colouring pencils
  • Pencil sharpener that retains the sharpenings (rather than letting them fall on the floor)
  • Protractor – Y5 & 6 only
  • Safety scissors – Y3 & 4 only

If you buy all these items from Suttles of New Malden you will get a 10% discount.

All of these items should be individually named and should be brought to school on the first day of term, Thursday 2nd September, in a soft pencil case.

Circus Workshops Next Week

There will be an exciting Circus Days Workshop for the whole school next week.  The children will be taught various circus skills by a professional circus skills performer and instructor. This will take place on Thursday, 15th July at the Infants and Friday, 16 July at the Juniors. Please could children come to school in their PE kit on their workshop day.

Local Business Donates 13 Chromebooks

We would like to thank CNM Estates. a local company who have generously donated 13 brand new chromebooks to the school.  Our thanks too, to Barbara Delamere for putting CNM Estates in contact with the school. In their letter to the school CNM Estates say:

“CNM Estates are delighted to be donating laptops to Christ Church Primary School.  During tremendously difficult times for all, schools have had to face new challenges, like making sure education of the highest quality is accessible for everyone.   We are grateful to be in a position where we can offer something back to the community.  At CNM, we want to be a vital part of making our local community flourish and grow in these difficult times, offering something back to our local schools.  We hope that these laptops can significantly improve the learning environment for the children at Christ Church School.”

Surbiton High School – Year 7 2022 Entrance Examination Update

Please also note the earlier deadline for Scholarship and Bursary applications which is 5 October 2021 (please note that the child must be registered by this date too). Message from Met Police – Plant to Plate

Children in Years 5 & 6 are invited to take part in a fun police initiative at Alric Allotments in New Malden from 10am – 12.30pm every Wednesday from the 4th – 25th August 2021. Police youth engagement officers will be leading activities such as scarecrow making, planting, general maintenance of the allotment and other hands-on activities. As an extension of our ‘Plant to Plate’ project which launched back in the spring, we are running a summer club. Normally the plant to plate project is aimed at vulnerable young people, to come to the allotment twice a week to help with planting and gardening in order to grow their own vegetables. These children have produced onions, sweetcorn and cabbages, and once the vegetables are ready to harvest, the children will usually cook a meal for their parents and guardians with the veg they have grown. The aim is to divert children away from crime and provide them with a safe space and positive experiences with police. We want to open up this project to other children in the borough to take part in some planting activities. We hope that our summer club will be just as successful. If you would like your child to take part in our summer club or if you have any questions, please email: dolly.hunt@met.police. Places are limited. Allocation will be first come, first served. Your child must live or go to school in Kingston.

Have a lovely weekend.
