Dear Parents/Carers,

This morning, the juniors has their termly music concert. I am always amazed at the talent the performers demonstrate – the result, I am sure, of many hours practice! As always, Mrs Bishop did a wonderful job or organising the concert.

International triple jumper Daniel Lewis put us through our paces this week. The children all had a go at a range of exercises – and he even got some of the teachers triple jumping. I was thrilled to hear that our gymnastics team had come second at the Kingston Primary Gymnastics Competition. Well done to the team for competing and thanks to Miss O’Connor for training them – it was a fantastic achievement!  Do see the photos in the attached newsletter.

Fond Farewell

After nearly 26 years with the School, Mrs Harper is retiring at Easter. Mrs Harper has worked as a Lunchtime Supervisor, Clerk to the Governors, Teaching Assistant and for the last 11 years in the Junior Office – that’s a lot of plasters administered and school trips organised! We would like to thank her for all those years of dedicated service to the school and its children and wish her a long and happy retirement.

Getting in Touch

Your child’s class teacher is the best person to speak to about anything to do with your child. Class teachers are always available at the end of the day, which is the best time of day to tell your child’s teacher about something or to ask any questions or raise any concerns. If you are not able to talk to your class teacher at the end of the day, you can always arrange a meeting through the school office. You can also contact them in other ways, do see the attached document for more information.

Update on changing facilities for the playing field

You may be aware that our application for reduction in the conditions relating to the use of the proposed changing facilities was heard by the Malden and Coombe Neighbourhood Committee on Tuesday.  To summarise the context, councillors granted our original application for planning permission for the changing facilities but only with certain conditions. These limited the hours of use to weekdays (at certain times) and restricted it to school use only.  We have therefore applied to extend the permitted use to weekends and to extend the use to education, sports and community in order to enable us to access grants.  Sadly, the decision was deferred on Tuesday. As we were originally told we would have a decision by 1/2/18, we are therefore considering an appeal in order to speed up the process.  Thank you so much to all the people who so generously gave their time to support us on Tuesday.

Governors’ Fund – Thank you

We would like to thank all the parents and carers who have already donated to the school Governors Fund this academic year. Every £10 Christ Church parents and carers give to the school enables us to apply for a further £90 of funding for key projects. Our aim this year is to utilise the governor’s fund to deliver projects which the children can directly benefit from as soon as possible.  In the current financial climate any money you feel able to contribute will make a huge difference. You can donate via ParentMail.

Talent Spotting…

  • Do you have a talent for building walls? We are looking for someone who can help us rebuild and extend our sandpit at the infants.  At the moment, it is surrounded by a low, crumbling brick wall. Do contact me if you would be able to build us a new one at head@ccnm.rbksch.org
  • Do you have green fingers? We are looking for people with gardening skills to help at the juniors. If you are interested, please email office@ccnm.rbksch.org.

Charity Walk for Peace

As you will have read, we are being invited by Mr Anees, on behalf of the Amiddayan Muslims to take part in their charity walk for peace on the morning of Sunday 29th March in Windsor Great Park. This is a beautiful place for a walk, and you and your family can take part in as much or as little as you feel is suitable. It will be followed by a free home cooked lunch. The walk will raise funds for both our chosen charity Lunchbowl and the school (£2000 of match funding).  Do let the offices know if you are hoping to take part. We will send a detailed flyer home nearer the time.

Science Leaders Air Pollution survey results

Mrs Brooks and the Science Leaders put up monitoring test tubes outside both sites before half term.  See the picture in the newsletter.  The results have just returned from the lab.

“Your first result for the tube put up at KT3 3HN, Junior site Elm Road is 29.4 µg/m3 (micrograms per cubic metre). Your second result for the tube put up at KT3 3TW, Infant site Lime Grove is 30.6µg/m3.What do your results mean? The European Union has set the legal limit for NO2 pollution at an annual mean (average) of 40µg/m3. Which means that during the time your air monitoring tubes were up, NO2 pollution levels were below the level at which the annual legal limit is set.”

Phew! The Science Leaders gave excellent predictions as to why one result might be higher than the other, but we didn’t think they would be that close!
