Well the snow arrived! It was lovely to see the children’s excitement as they played in the snow – for many children it was the first snow they remember. We have had snow balls, snowmen, sledging and not even the snow could stop football! I am so thankful to everyone who worked so hard to keep the school open through this challenging time: our premises team, Diogo Calaca and Derek Allum, who ensured both sites were open and ready; our teachers, teaching assistants and office staff who enabled things to run normally; our Connect staff who braved the weather to ensure Connect kept open and Mr Burkinshaw who led us in making the key decisions each day. Thank you, too, to parents and children for making it in every day – I know many children would have liked a snow day, even if parents didn’t! You can see photos of the fun in the snow – and more – in the attached newsletter.
International Triple Jumper Visit
In collective worship, this morning, Mrs Day & Miss Bruen told the children that international triple jumper, Daniel Lewis, is coming to Christ Church! Daniel competed at the 2014 Commonwealth Games where he made the final and finished in 7th place. After a couple of injury-riddled seasons, Daniel is looking to push forward and qualify for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.
Daniel will be visiting the infants and the juniors:
•Wednesday 14th March – Juniors
•Thursday 15th March – Infants
During the event, Daniel will be leading the children in a sponsored fitness circuit, and will follow-up with a talk and a Q&A session. The aim of the event is to inspire the pupils to take up sport generally, but just as importantly, to encourage them to discover and then pursue their passion in life.
To help us raise money for this year’s event, your child will be bringing home a sponsorship form. As the sponsorship form explains, much of the money that is raised will be used to buy sports equipment for the school, while also supporting GB athletes (including Paralympic athletes).
Those who had a pupil here last year, may remember the event with Olympic Table Tennis Athlete, Darius Knight. The money that the children raised for the event enabled us to purchase some much needed PE equipment, to develop a link with Darius Knight table tennis clubs and to obtain several indoor table tennis tables at the Juniors.
Please ensure that sponsorship forms and money are returned to the school office on or before Thursday 22nd March and children must have their full PE kit, including trainers, in school on the day of the visit.
Next week, we will be sending out details of clubs in the summer term. Click here for a list of all the clubs that will be running, next term.
Sadly, a few parents continue to park selfishly, we have received several complaints this week from a neighbour who has been unable to leave to collect their child from school. We would ask you that, in the interest of the children’s safety, please be considerate to our neighbours and help us to keep your children safe by observing the following:
•Never park or stop on the zigzag lines outside the school or park on the pavement
•Do not park in the staff car park – in the event of an emergency we need to be able move the vehicles quickly
•Do not park across our neighbours entrance roads or driveways

In Year 2, we are learning about our address and date of birth. Please could you remind your Year 2 child of their date of birth and address, including postcode.
Donations of items for gardening
As I look out at the snow falling, it seems odd to be considering gardening, but we would like to plant seeds inside, in preparation for warmer weather. If you have any compost which you could donate to the school, it would be most welcome.
I hope you stay warm during what promises to be a very snowy weekend,
Tabitha White, Headteacher
