Dear Parents/Carers,

What an exciting end to the half term it has proved to be with children sporting many hair styles and colours for ‘break the rules’ day! It has also been lovely to be able to have our first trip of the year and to welcome a theatre company. Whilst we are still being very cautious, it is so encouraging to be able to plan enrichment activities again and to reintroduce ‘normal life’.

It is also encouraging to see the weather change. I hope you manage to enjoy the sunshine with your family over the next week.

Positive COVID Cases Over Half Term

Let’s hope that this proves to be an unnecessary paragraph – we have been doing so well so far. However, if anyone does develop symptoms within 2 days of the end of term and then tests positive, please send a message to as we would be responsible for tracking and tracing school contacts.

School Shoes: Black Trainers from September

To improve the smartness of our children and to reduce the number of shoes parents need to buy for their children, children should only wear plain black trainers in school from September, with soles and any embellishments or decorations black. They will need these for PE days, but they are also welcome to wear them on the other days of the week as well. We have checked out the possible prices to make sure that they are affordable and we have discovered that there are ranges available on Amazon from £12.99, Shoezone from £9.99, Primark from £10 and Next from £22. If your child’s trainers are not plain black, we will ask you to provide some.

Recorder Clubs

As we said in the email of 30th March regarding clubs for this term, we would review the recorder clubs at half term. The clubs will remain as year group clubs and will run for years 3, 4 and 5 after half term until w/c 5th July. Payment of £10.00, which will confirm your child’s place, will be available on ParentMail tomorrow, Saturday 29th May, as follows:

  • Year 3 recorders (Thursdays 8.00am) – booking from 9.00am tomorrow
  • Year 4 recorders (Wednesday lunchtime) – booking from 9.15am tomorrow
  • Year 5 recorders (Friday lunchtime) – booking from 9.30am tomorrow

Junior Singing Concert

Next term we will be organising a SINGING concert. Anybody in the Juniors can audition (via home videos) as a soloist or in groups. These are the guidelines:

  1. Make sure the lyrics are appropriate.
  2. It would be better to have some kind of backing.
  3. Keep it short (not too many verses) – max one and a half minutes (90 seconds)

Further details regarding the deadline and where to send video submissions will follow after half term.

Parent Representative Meeting: Friday 16th July at 2pm

We would like to ensure that we have an opportunity to meet face to face with parent representatives before the end of the school year. This will give us an opportunity to review the year and share our plans for the year to come. We have therefore scheduled a meeting for Friday 16th July at 2 p.m. on the infant site, in the hope that restrictions will have lifted by then.

We have invited our new catering company, Nourish, to join us so that there will be an opportunity to discuss the plans and the menus for September (they will also be meeting with our school council earlier in the same day).

Reminder: PTA School Cookbook

Calling all parents, carers, teachers and staff! The PTA still need more recipes for the cookbook they are creating, which will be printed for you to purchase, with proceeds going to the school. They are looking for your favourite recipes, recipes that have been passed down through your family, or that you’ve invented yourself. They would love to have a diverse range of recipes from around the world, or indeed a national dish. They would also love to have vegetarian, vegan, everyday recipes that are quick and easy and recipes that you’ve adapted for allergies. The half term holiday may provide an ideal opportunity for you to make and take photos of your recipe with your child. Please complete the recipe form attached below and email it to by Tuesday 8th June.

Kingston Magical Market

Kingston First, the Business Improvement District for Kingston town centre, has launched its first ever augmented reality trail in Kingston town centre. The trail is based on a hidden market that can only be seen through the magic of augmented reality technology. Last year, children from across the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames aged between four and thirteen took part in a competition to design characters that sell their wares in the magical market. Twelve winning designs were selected and have now been turned into moving, dancing and wiggling 3D creations that can be found on a walking trail around the town centre. Please see the attached poster for more details.

The trail begins at the ‘Out of Order’ art installation on Old London Road (red telephone boxes), and there are twelve characters at different locations across the town centre that can be accessed by either downloading the app or by scanning the QR code which can be found on the posters.

I hope you all enjoy the half term break next week and look forward to seeing all the children back in school on Monday 7th June.
