There has been a great deal of creativity and enthusiasm on display again this week. Year 1 have been exhibiting their drawing skills, sketching shells using chalks, and Year 2 have been making some very impressive moon buggies. Year 3 have continued their DT topic designing a bag, and Year 4 were very excited to find monster footprints leading to their classroom, after which they received a letter from ‘Grumblechop’ asking for help to get him some teeth! This afternoon we also welcomed back our 2018-2019 Year 6 leavers for a Returners’ Tea which was a lovely opportunity for them to catch up with their Christ Church teachers and friends.
Parent Governor Election
You should have received information by ParentMail yesterday regarding the above. I would like to clarify that our parent governor named in yesterday’s communication as Emma Church will be known to most of you as Emma Scott, mum of Tommy in Year 5 and Lucy in Year 3. Apologies for any confusion this caused.
Junior Christmas Performance
This year every child at the juniors will take part in a Christmas performance celebrating Christmas around the world. There will be two performances on the following dates and times:
- Thursday 12th December at 7:00 p.m.
- Friday 13th December at 2:00 p.m.
Christmas Card Project
This year, the PTA are running a Christmas Card Project in partnership with Class Fundraising Ltd. They are hoping to raise funds for the school by giving you the opportunity to purchase personalised Christmas cards, gift tags, mugs, tea towels & eco shopper bags showing your child’s own unique Christmas design. For every item purchased the school will receive a commission payment.
The children have been busy in class over the past few weeks creating their Christmas designs which will soon be made into sample cards ready to send home with order forms after half term. Cards will be available in packs of 12 for just £5.00, making them great to send out to family and friends. All orders will be delivered to school and distributed at the beginning of December.
Class Fundraising Ltd are a UK based carbon neutral company. All of their paper based products are printed on certified FSC paper and all inks used are non-solvent vegetable based.
Parents’ Coffee and Prayer
The parents’ coffee and prayer group’s first meeting of the year is at 9.15-10.15am on Monday 21st October at the church. It is a great opportunity to meet other people and pray together for the school. For more information, please see the attached flyer.

Charity Walk for Peace Update – Double your donations to the PTA!!
In June pupils, Áedán and Aoife Jenkins (along with their parents) took part in a national Charity Walk for Peace to help raise awareness of the charity as well as to raise much needed funds for our school, through a generous matched funding scheme run by the charity. They say:
We are still accepting donations for the rest of this month on our CWFP Just Giving fundraiser page. We have achieved almost 75% of the required £2,000, in order to fully benefit from the £2,000 matched funding scheme run by the CWFP, so please do give what you can as ALL donated and matched funds will go back to our school! With the revamp of the infant playground, which is being funded mostly by the PTA, we need to work hard to replenish our funds so that we can continue to support our school. To donate, please click here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/denise-lieu-jenkins. Donations are also eligible for gift aid. You can also donate in person via the school office. Just mark your donation for the attention of CWFP/Denise Lieu-Jenkins.
Updating your contact (and other) information – SIMS Parent
We use a system called SIMS, provided by a company called Capita, to store the information you give us about your child and yourselves – name, address, emergency contacts, medical conditions etc. From now on we are asking you to check and update this information using the SIMS Parent App. Hopefully, this will be much quicker and easier than reviewing the paper form we sent home annually. Please see the attached SIMS Privacy Notice for details about how your data is processed.
You will receive a registration email from firstname.lastname@example.org containing a unique invitation code. You will need this code to set up your SIMS Online Services account. If you do not received a registration email, please check your SPAM folder before contacting your school. Follow the link in the email to be directed to the registration page. For more details see the SIMs Parent App Getting Started guide attached.
From your smartphone or tablet, you can download the app from the Google Play or Apple App Store – search for SIMS Parent – or from a PC or Windows phone, login online at www.sims-parent.co.uk.
Job Vacancy – Clerk to the Governors
The Clerk provides administrative support to the Governing Body and its committees. They normally attend 12 evening meetings each year (4 per term) in term time and each meeting typically lasts 2½ hours. There will be additional paid hours for administrative duties such as preparing and circulating documents, checking information for governors and maintaining records; all hours will be recorded and claimed on a time basis at £12.43 per hour. For more details and an application form, please go to the Vacancies page of the school website.
Unfortunately, the dishwasher repair is taking longer than we’d hoped. The children are being served using small compostable plates and bowls, but please be assured that, sausage-gate aside, they are receiving the correct size portions. We will now be using the staff dishwasher for the cutlery in order to avoid the use of plastic. We have been advised that the repair will now happen on Tuesday.
Lunchbowl, having bought a minibus, plan to take the children from their Kibera Kindergarten swimming. So, they are looking for donations of swimming costumes, boys and girls for children aged from 6 to 14. If you have any costumes your child has grown out of please bring them to either office before half-term.
Playground safety at the Juniors
Please can I remind parents not to let their children play on the climb-a-round at pick up time as the area is unsupervised at this time. Unfortunately, there was an incident earlier this week where a child was injured.
SeOUL Residential Fair Sponsorship – We Need Your Help and Drawing Competition!
The PTA are delighted to announce that SeOUL Residential Estate Agents will, once again, be sponsoring our upcoming fair, which will open up a potential £1,050 of funding for the school, in return for 70 local addresses to display their advertising boards, which will also advertise the fair.
If you are happy to volunteer, please email email@example.com ASAP (and by 22nd October) with your name and address and they will do the rest.
In addition, we also have the opportunity of having a festive drawing by a pupil printed on all 70 boards and fair banners. If your child would like the chance of the drawing being theirs, please enter our drawing competition (form attached to print off or hard copies available from the office). Owing to the strict print deadlines, entrants must be submitted to the school offices by 9:00a.m. on Tuesday 22nd October! Good luck!
