October 22nd 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

It has been lovely to see the children breaking the rules as part of the PTAs Break the Rules Day. There were a real variety of hair styles, socks and cuddly toys seen at school today!

Thank you for your generosity with the Harvest donations. We have so many items that we need to borrow Nourish’s van  (the catering company) to take them to Kingston’s Foodbank. We know that these will be extremely welcome at these difficult times.  Thank you, too, for bearing with our many COVID messages and changes over the last couple of weeks. The children have been fantastic, whether they have been carrying their meals to the classrooms, washing their hands frequently or attending choir outside in the Junior playground. It has been reassuring to see the number of cases steadily drop and I hope you have a very happy, safe and COVID free half term. We are looking forward to returning to normal lunch arrangements after half term.

Open Afternoon

On Friday 5th November, parents are invited to visit their child’s classrooms from 2:15 p.m. at the infants and 2:30 p.m. at the juniors. At the end of the visit, parents can take their child home if they want to. Governors and other members of staff will also be visiting the classrooms, so every child will  have someone to show their work to.

COVID Testing in Half Term

The Government is urging that staff and pupils continue to test twice-weekly at home over the half term break, as well as testing at home the evening before they return to school.

Parents’ Resources

At parents evening, teachers may have referred to some resources on our website. Do click here to view them.

Consultation on Amendment to the Admissions Policy 2023-2024

The governors are consulting on an amendment to the admissions policy in the oversubscription criteria 5(c).  It is proposed that this criterion is simplified by replacing “for whom this is the nearest Church of England School” with “who lives within 2 kilometres of the school”.  In accordance with regulations, this is open for consultation for a minimum of 6 weeks.  Any comments can be sent either to The Governors’ Clerk at the school or by email to consultation@ccnm.uk by Friday, 10th December 2021.

Secondary School Applications – Deadline: Sunday, 31st October

The deadline for secondary school applications is Sunday, 31st October.  Please remember to complete your on-line application if you haven’t already done so.  Please go to http://www.eadmissions.org.uk/ to apply.

Because the secondary closing date is on a Sunday this year, School Admissions have advised that you submit your secondary school applications before 6pm on Friday, 29th October. The eAdmissions Helpdesk will not be available to assist parents who experience difficulty logging in to an existing account or creating a new one, until 8am on Monday, 1st November and they wish to avoid parents submitting a late application because of this. Please be aware that applications submitted late (unless late for a good reason) would only be considered after all on time applications.

Christ Church New Malden Christmas Cards & Wrapping Paper (New for 2021!)

Once again, the PTA are running the popular Christmas Card Project in partnership with Class Fundraising Ltd. This year, in addition to cards, gift tags, mugs, tea towels and shopping bags, you will also be able to purchase wrapping paper showing your child’s personalised Christmas design.

In class, the children have been creating their designs which will soon be made into sample Christmas cards. These will be sent home after half term with details about how to order your items.

This project is a great fundraiser for our school as every item purchased means CCNM will receive a minimum of 22% commission. Last year we raised over £800 which is amazing! Class Fundraising Ltd are a carbon neutral company and all their paper-based products are printed on certified FSC paper, and all inks used are non-solvent vegetable based.

Remembrance Parade and Service – Sunday, 14th November

The Royal British Legion Malden & Coombe Branch have contacted us to say that a full parade will be held this year.  If your child would like to join in the parade, please come wearing school uniform and meet at 8.45 a.m. at Presburg Road ready to march off at 9.00 a.m. to arrive at the Memorial at 9.20 a.m. for the start of the service at 9.30 a.m.  The school will be laying a wreath at the service.

The PTA Online Christmas Family Quiz!

Following the success of the Christ Church PTA Family Quiz, we are back with a Christmas special! A chance to see some friends and have some virtual fun. Join us on Sunday 5th December 4pm on Zoom for some quizzing and other fun for the whole family. Who will take the glory and who will win the booby prize???

Family tickets available on ParentMail NOW! Entry £10 per family. Please see the attached poster. Places are limited so get your ticket soon! (Visit the shop in ParentMail) All money raised goes to the PTA. As Miss White has indicated, the school is in an even more difficult financial position than ever so PTA contributions are more valuable than ever. We are hoping to fund the addition of outdoor learning/shaded play areas on both sites for the summer so please support us if you can.

National Sleep Helpline

One in four children in the UK are not getting enough sleep, this has an impact on their behaviour and ability to learn, as well as their physical health. The new National Sleep Helpline is a free helpline run by trained sleep advisors who can talk to young people directly, or their parents.  The helpline is open 5 nights a week, Sunday to Thursday, 7-9pm and the number is 03303 530 541. You can read more on the attached poster or on their website: https://thesleepcharity.org.uk/national-sleep-helpline/

Have a lovely half term.
