I am pleased by how well the children have settled back into school and re-established their friendships. I can already see high quality work being produced and we are working hard on improving standards of handwriting once again! I am glad that we have scheduled parents’ evenings for earlier dates this term as this will enable teachers to share very timely updates about your child and their strengths and areas for development after lockdown.
Parent Representatives’ Meeting
Although we cannot yet have face to face meetings, we are committed to continue our programme of meeting with parent representatives. Indeed, I think that this partnership is particularly important at such a strange time. Our first meeting of the year will be on Friday 16th October by Zoom. In order to make this as smooth a meeting as possible, we would ask you to send your comments to your parent representatives by Friday 9th October, so that your parent representatives can share them with us before the meeting. Do remember to celebrate things that are going well as well as suggestions for the future. This will ensure we keep up the positive as well as plan to make things even better.
It is lovely to see the children wearing their new uniform, it does make them look smart around the school. Please remember:
- Children should wear a school cardigan, sweatshirt or hoodie. They are not allowed to wear any other type.
- Junior children should only bring in a school rucksack or a plain drawstring bag.
- If hair can be tied back it should be, and any hair ties or headbands must be in the school colours.
Next week, we will be checking that everyone is following our uniform code.
We do know that Covid has led to problems with the supply of our uniform. We met with our supplier this week and, unfortunately, they are unable to guarantee when the next delivery will be. (in particular we are waiting for cardigans (smaller sizes), hoodies and PE tops. As soon as we have a date we will let you know and will deliver via your child. I am sorry that this has proved so complex and we will take this into account when checking uniform.
Please make sure you name all your children’s uniform. If a child loses an item of uniform at school, it is impossible to reunite it with its owner if it is not named.
Please make sure your child wears a warm, waterproof coat. Following Government advice, we want children to be outside for all their playtimes so will only keep them inside if it rain is heavy.
Skipping Workshops – Next Week
Skipping Workshops will be joining us at the Juniors next week, teaching different skipping skills to every class. Workshops for Year 3 and Year 6 will be on Monday and for Year 4 and Year 5 they will be on Wednesday. Children should come to school wearing their PE kit on the day of their workshop. Ropes can be ordered to receive on the day by completing the order form you will already have received by email separately or can be purchased through their website www.skipping-workshops.co.uk.
Perform Drama Classes – KS1 & KS2
We were very pleased to receive a visit from Perform on Monday 28th September. The children had a wonderful time exploring the theme of Fairytales & Fables and using drama and dance to help develop their confidence, concentration and social skills. To complement the workshop, there is a free educational app for iPhones and iPads based around the theme of Fairytales & Fables. Click here to download it free or here to find out more about the Fairytales & Fables theme.
Perform run regular weekly classes in the local area and they are offering a special introductory discount to all parents of Christ Church New Malden School if they come along for a free trial session before Monday 19th October. To claim your discount, just call Perform on 020 7255 9120 quoting CHCH191020 or book online at perform.org.uk. Please also see attached for further information on their October holiday workshops.
Further to my message previously asking that parents/carers do not park in the small car park at Kavanagh Court in Lime Grove at drop off or pick up times. It would appear that parents/carers are still using this and inconveniencing our neighbours. This is a small car park which is strictly for use of residents only and should not, under any circumstances be used for parking by parents/carers at drop off or pick up times.
Children being collected by someone else
We are committed to keeping all our children safe and to ensuring that they only go home with the right person. If your child is being collected by someone else, please email the class email address to let the teacher know in advance. If it is a late change, which you need to let us know during the day, please email or phone the office.
