We have come to the end of our first full week this term, with Wednesday being especially eventful. Year 1 enjoyed their visit to the Dinodome for their topic learning all about dinosaurs. Year 2 were very enthusiastic in their Space Dome experience and have been impressing their teachers about what they already know about the moon landing. Year 5 went on a trip to Hampton Court and were very lucky to be given the tour by Historian, Author and TV Presenter, Tracy Borman, who is also a Christ Church mum. Photos of some of these will be featured in our new monthly newsletter at the end of the month.
Child Collection Policy
At Christ Church we endeavour to keep children safe at all times and promote the welfare of children by following our Safeguarding policy. As part of this policy we are reviewing our procedures for collecting and the non-collection of children.
Please remember to let your class teacher know if someone else will be picking up your child in plenty of time. Over the next couple of weeks we will be introducing some measures to refine our current procedures and, as part of this, all parents/carers will be receiving an email via ParentMail requesting a password that families can use when someone that is not known to the school is collecting a child at the end of the day. Class teachers will then ask the person collecting a child to confirm this password before releasing a child. Please bear with us if it takes us a little longer to dismiss children.
Reception – Parent Talk & Welcome Service – Friday 20th September
Next Friday, parents of Reception children are invited to a talk at 1:20 p.m. to learn how you can support your child’s learning. Strategies for helping your child with their reading, writing and maths will be shared. Following that, parents are invited to walk with their children to Christ Church, where Year 5 will be welcoming the children at 2:30 p.m. Reception parents will take their children home at the end of the service.
School Lunches – Feeding Hungry Minds
Please see attached an updated leaflet from our hot meals provider detailing instructions on payment and meal selection.
Please remember to look on our website for links to clubs running at both sites. There are still spaces available in some clubs including:
- Chess at the Juniors (you can also telephone Debbie Casey on 07989 156996)
- Drama at the Infants
- EDA Dance for both Infants and Juniors.
- Tennis club at both Infants and Juniors
Mrs Huggett has requested that to join orchestra, your child should have at least one year’s experience playing their instrument. Unfortunately piano players are not needed, but advanced recorders are very welcome.
Reading Challenge – Juniors
This term our reading challenge at the Juniors is book bingo and bingo boards were sent home today. Once they have completed a box, they need to write the name of the book in it and have it signed by a parent or guardian. Lines can be horizontal, vertical or diagonal. For every line your child completes, they will receive a raffle ticket which will go into a draw held on Friday 8th November.
Parking at School
Please can we remind parents/carers to park their cars with consideration to other drivers, pedestrians and local residents, especially at drop off and pick up times. We have already received complaints this week about parents blocking our neighbours’ driveways and parking on the pavement. Please park with care and help make the area near and around our school a safer place for our children, their families and the local community.
Gill Hines Workshop – Supporting your anxious child – Saturday 28th September
Please see the attached flyer if you would be interested in attending a two hour workshop for parents to explore some of the causes and ways of supporting anxious children of any age. It will take place on Saturday 28th September and is run by Gill Hines, Education and Parenting Consultant.

Farewell and best wishes to Mrs Cook
We were very sad to see Sarah Cook, Nursery Assistant, leave at the end of the summer holidays. She has gone to King Athelstan as Receptionist in their school office. She has worked at Christ Church for 7 years and was a great asset to the nursery. I know the Nursery team will really miss her, but we also know that they will be thrilled to have her!
