This afternoon we had a lovely service in the church, where the children from Year 5 welcomed the new Reception children. The Year 5 children were remembering their own service, in 2013, and saying how big the older children seemed to them, then! One of the best things about being an all-through primary school is that we get to see the children develop while they are at Christ Church and we look forward to seeing our Reception children change and grow over the next seven years.
It has been a busy week at school. Yesterday was our first sports event of the year. A team of seven boys and girls went to Goals New Malden for the borough’s Year 2 Football Festival. The team played fantastically together, winning all but one game, and we were really proud of all of them. Years 5 and 6 have been learning about our circulatory systems. This week, they dissected lambs hearts. You can see photos of both of these things, and more, in the attached newsletter.
If your child is in Years 1 to 6, they should have brought home a letter about EducationCity, which included their username and password. All children can use it at home, but Year 2 and children in the juniors will also be set their home learning there. If your child has mislaid their letter please email the office and we will send you your details.

Year 1 Phonics Talk – Friday 5th October at 9 a.m.
Children in Year 1 are assessed on their phonics knowledge at the end of Year 1 – this is the statutory Phonics Check. To help parents support their child, we will be having a parents meeting on Friday 5th October, at 9 a.m. in the Infant Hall. We will explain what the check is, how phonics work and different resources you can use at home.
Harvest – Friday 5th October
We will celebrate Harvest with a service at Christ Church at 2 p.m. on Friday 5th October. Children are encouraged to bring in some non-perishable food, e.g. food in tins. Parents are invited to come to the service and we do need parents to help walk to and from church. If you can help, please let your class teacher know.

Are there any parents who are interested in supporting the school by driving a minibus to events? Full training, and a minibus, is provided. If you are interested, or you know someone who is, please email email@example.com.
Please be reminded: Do not include any form of nut or peanut butter in your child’s pack lunch or snack as we have pupils with severe nut allergies.
Collecting ‘junk’ for Nursery
In Nursery, we love to make models. We would be grateful for donations of ‘junk.’ Because of severe allergies in our class, please do not bring in any food packaging. However we would love any non-food packaging that is smaller than a shoe box eg toilet roll tubes, kitchen roll tubes, tubes, toothpaste boxes, light bulb boxes, make up boxes, mobile phone boxes, small Amazon packages. You can drop off any bags of junk at Nursery throughout the year: please leave them on the patio under the roof near the sandpit. Thank you!
Some keen gardeners have been clearing the beds at the Juniors during playtimes and lunchtimes. We have some plants and seeds ready to grow, but the soil is rather dry. If you could donate a bag of compost we would be very grateful. If any parents would like to help, do contact the office.
The children using the quiet room at lunch time really enjoy making pompoms from old balls of wool. Do you have any you could donate? Mr Robinson (our lollipop man and current quiet room supervisor) has said supplies are running low.
Keeping your child safe using devices
Many children in Y5 and Y6 bring phones to school. This in itself can bring challenges as they learn to navigate how to use devices safely and wisely. Please find attached some information from our Local Safeguarding Children’s Board to support parents on setting up children’s devices with parental controls.
As part of our commitment to keeping children safe online, Y6 are currently creating videos to promote staying safe online and when using their phones. Please ask them about what they are learning.
Someone else collecting your child?
If someone else is picking up your child from school, and you know before the school day starts, please email the class email address. If there is a change in pick up arrangements during the day, please contact the school office.
