It has been a wonderful start to the new term! The new AstroTurf has transformed the infant field, and will provide a wonderful playing surface, all year round. The juniors came back and have harvested the crops they grew in the summer; we had beans, corn and some lovely sweet peas.
Over the summer, we bought some iPads, and we have enough for a whole class to use at once. They will provide an exciting resource for the children, and we hope to be able to share some of the work they have produced soon.
Secondary School Presentations – Monday 18th September at 7 p.m.
If your child is in Year 6, they were given today a booklet, which sets out all the arrangements for the application process and details for all the secondary schools in Kingston borough. Do look up the dates for visits as they will be happening shortly.
We will be holding a parent information evening at the Junior site on Monday 18th September at 7.00 p.m. Although the talk is primarily for parents of children in Year 6, parents of children in Year 5 are very welcome too. This will be designed to help you find your way through a complex process smoothly and to allay your fears. Mrs Brown has also kindly offered to help you complete your application, if that would help.
There will be staff from Coombe Girls’, Coombe Boys’ and St Cecilia’s at the meeting to answer parent questions. Mrs Kim will be available to translate for Korean speakers.
Looking after your children at lunchtimes
In the past, you have sometimes told us that your children are not sure who to speak to at lunchtimes. We have therefore changed our approach so that there is a dedicated lunchtime supervisor for each class or year group. In the infants, there is a midday meals supervisor linked to each class. In the Juniors, the Year group teaching assistant will also be supervising at lunchtimes and will, therefore, be a very familiar face for the children. We trust that this will make lunchtimes a very positive experience for all.
Nursery needs fire engines!
If you have a large, sturdy toy fire engine that you no longer need, please would you consider donating it to Nursery? They are a favourite with the nursery children, and the nursery team would be very grateful.
This year, we have exciting plans for DT and art for every class. Our DT teacher, Mrs Pallister will be cooking/ exploring textiles with every class from Year 1 to Year 6 and the class teacher will also be engaging in DT projects at the same time. However, we wish to ensure that we protect uniforms when we are using messy materials. We would, therefore, welcome donations of old adult shirts.
