Weekly Parent Update - Thursday 28th March

We had amazing colourful scenes in our infant hall on Tuesday morning with the infant Easter bonnet parade.

Weekly Update from Mr Meehan

As this term draws to a close, a big thank you for all your support for the school community and for your children’s education; this makes so much difference at Christ Church. It was amazing to hear that over £800 was raised at the Easter Egg Hunt last Saturday, and I know plans are afoot for the redevelopment of what was our ‘pig’ area on the infant site. Equally, we have a ‘big vision’ for our junior playground of the future, so do get involved in this. I am grateful to the PTA for the thinking that has already gone into this, and with enough collective energy and some good fund-raising we can look forward to making at least some of this a reality.

A heartfelt thank you also for your incredible support in raising £2116 during Paralympic athlete Nerys Pearce's visit. Your generosity will help us to acquire sports equipment, enhancing opportunities for all our pupils.

We had amazing colourful scenes in our infant hall on Tuesday morning with the infant Easter bonnet parade, and there was a real atmosphere of fun and celebration. You can see photos of this and other activities from this month in our March Newsletter.

It was also a great joy to get to the Rose Theatre on Tuesday afternoon to see the Malden and Coombe Cluster concert, and our Year 5 and 6 choir can be very proud of their creative and professional performance, which included uniquely our hand bells too! You can see a couple of photos attached. Well done to Mrs Bond and Mrs Robinson for all their hard work and rehearsing.

Thank you to Izzie, Hailey, Poppy, Isaac, Daheong and Paula in Year 4 for contributing some thoughtful prayers and poetry for our worship yesterday at the juniors. Here is one from Hailey Chow in Eagle class:

Dear God

Thank you for the miracle of life. You gave us all your love and hope. Your resurrection has washed away our sins. You taught us how to be good to everyone, and how to forgive others, as you did for us. Let us have hearts of thankfulness for your sacrifice.

Please help us to live in gladness and responsibility for ourselves, our parents and friends, our society.

Today and everyday, we celebrate Jesus rose from the dead to be with God forever. We will walk in your mighty grace and share this news to the world.

We ask this in the name of the God who loves us, the risen Jesus who gave his life that we might have new life in our spirit.

Amen.

This week, we also have had our first ‘Charity Tuesday’ with a focus on Oxygen, following our Pupil Leadership Team visiting their charity shop and John Trend, the CEO, visiting our collective worship last week. Thank you for all your donations and we were able to raise £323 for Oxygen this week.

It was so wonderful to be together this morning as we finished our term, with the Year 5s leading us so well in our Easter service at Christ Church. I am certainly looking forward to Easter as we celebrate again the message of God's amazing love, central to this time of year for Christians.  I wish you and your family a lovely Easter holiday and pray that it is a time of knowing God’s blessing and grace. However you will spend the next couple of weeks, I pray that you will enjoy ‘coming to the table’ with family, friends and neighbours and have some good times.

‘The Land of Roar' by Jenny McLachlan

This has to be one of the most imaginative children’s books I’ve read in a while. I really enjoyed this; it was a fun portal fantasy adventure, with two eleven year old twins re-stumbling into their childhood imaginary kingdom of Roar to rescue their grandad who has been kidnapped by the evil villain (Croky) and taken prisoner there. The adventure is light and fun - nothing too dark - and the characters are well written, especially Win, Arthur's friend and sidekick- who was my favourite and very funny!

Parents - if you have a good book recommendation to offer, please email the school office, and we would be happy to include in our weekly updates!

Our School Updates for Parents

Second Hand Uniform Sale

There will be a second hand uniform sale at the Infants at pick up time on Friday 19th April. Uniform for both infant and junior children will be available.

Being vigilant at drop off and pick up

Please can we remind parents that, especially for infant children, they should keep them close by when walking to school as the roads are very busy at this time, and we had an incident this week where a child was almost hit by a car.
